Here are our contributors' picks for the best events in Ottawa this week (and a couple from next week too).

Thursday, November 7: Yamantaka // Sonic Titan
If you’re into experimental indie music, you should definitely head over to Babylon Nightclub this Thursday to check out Yamantaka // Sonic Titan. The Toronto/Montreal experimental/noh-wave/performance art opera group will be giving a live performance alongside The Yips and Blue Angel, both of Ottawa.

Friday, November 8-Sunday, November 10: IMOOfest 2013
For three days this weekend, you can hear music of the moment, in many different styles. IMOOfest is a festival of improvised music, meaning that it's new every time, and often put together in different ways. For an example, see the OttawaJazzScene.ca interview with the Accordion Conspiracy.

Saturday, November 9: Miracle League of Ottawa fundraising launch
The Miracle League of Ottawa is having their launch and launch of their major fundraising campaign to build an accessible baseball diamond on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 10am at the Place d'Orleans Shopping Centre (BMO Fountain Stage). This accessible baseball diamond, along with a playground, would be the first of its kind in Canada designed specifically for children with disabilities.

Sunday, November 10: Ottawa Vintage Clothing Show
Canada’s largest vintage clothing show is happening at the Ottawa Convention Centre. This annual fashion sale brings together rare-one-of-a-kind pieces, jewelry, scarves, hats, purses, and cocktail dresses under one roof. There’s sure to be something for everyone at any price range.

Sunday, November 10: Caravan of Tease 2013 Tour
If you’re up for some classic burlesque this weekend, head over to the Mercury Lounge on Sunday for the last stop of the Caravan of Tease Tour featuring live performances by Esther De Ville, Fionna Flauntit, Koston Kreme and more.

Monday, November 11: Remembrance Day in Ottawa
Ottawa hosts Canada's National Ceremony of Remembrance at the National War Memorial at the corner of Elgin and Wellington at 11am. There are also many local ceremonies across our region. In Stittville, vintage war planes including a Spitfire and a Hurricane will do a fly-by as part of Remembrance Day Activities.

Monday, November 11: Not Quite the Classics: One on One With Colin Mochrie
Once upon a time not long ago, the wonderfully funny Colin Mochrie applied his improv skills to well-known stories and came up with Not Quite the Classics. He’ll be talking about the book at the Ottawa International Writers Festival, 7 p.m. Don’t miss your chance to meet the Canadian comedian who’s described as “devastatingly handsome, perilously smart, and smells like warm maple syrup.”

Tuesday, November 12: Ottawa Public Library Teen Authors Festival

At Nepean Centrepointe Branch, 101 Centrepointe - Lemony Snicket, 6:30pm. For all you fans of A Series of Unfortunate Events. Programs are free and open to teens across the city.

Thursday, November 14: Ottawa Premiere of The Human Scale
What if cities were designed for people? What if urban spaces encouraged human interaction rather than alienation, environmental and health problems? These questions are examined in The Human Scale, a film that draws on the work of Danish architect Jan Gehl. Hosted by Urban Forum and the Royal Danish Embassy. Mayfair Theatre, 7 p.m.

Thursday, November 14: Spotlight On... Andrew King
Crush Improv welcomes Ottawa artist Andrew King as the special guest for Spotlight On. It's an award-winning format of unscripted, supervised theatre. Andrew will be telling stories from his past and the Crush Improv cast will improvised scenes based on his life. At Centrepointe Studio Theatre, 8pm. I'll be playing piano.
