I was at last night's Great Race, a fundraiser organized by local artist and frequent OttawaStart contributor Andrew King.

Andrew's been talking for months about putting something like this together and I'm glad he finally pulled it off.  About 30 people raced wooden Kub Kars down a 32-foot, 3-lane track inside the Westboro Masonic Hall.  The evening had a Great Gatsby theme, with many guests dressed up in 1920's clothing and decor, and the silent movie Metropolis projected onto the wall.  Inexplicably, there was also a flying inflatable shark.

It was a totally creative and entertaining event, and it raised lots of money with all proceeds going towards the purchase of art supplies for local school art programs.  $1850 was raised during the night.

I took a few photos last night and added them to my Flickr stream...
