I was at the opening ceremonies on Wednesday for the new "Arena B" at Goulbourn Recreation Centre. (Funny that the official opening for a skating rink happened on one of the hottest days of the summer.)
The arena features a new NHL-sized ice surface (is Stittsville going to bid for an expansion franchise) along with several features that make it fully accessible for sledge hockey. It's a nice rink.
Also interesting to see some of the environmental and energy conservation measures in place at the building, including charging stations for electric vehicles.
There are a few parking spots at the back of the building that are equipped with electrical outlets so that you can plug in your car. Nothing fancy - just some concrete posts with electrical outlets. This is the first city-owned facility to include charging stations.
They're pay-per-use -- once you've plugged in your car, you're supposed to walk around to the registration desk and pay by the hour for your charge.

Very cool. I currently have a Smart Car - I think my next one will be electric!
ReplyDeleteTerrible prices considering that electricity is $0.20/kwh (including delivery costs).
