Where Target's coming to Ottawa, and where Zellers is sticking around

An old-fashioned Zellers store on Sparks Street Mall.
This Zellers store on Sparks Street is staying "as is" but at least six others in Ottawa are switching over to Targets.  Photo by Steve Brandon, used by permission.

Target (say it with a soft "g" to sound classier) is planning to open six new stores in the Ottawa area, opening in 2013:

  • Hazeldean Mall on Eagleson Road
  • Meadowlands Shopping Centre on Merivale Road
  • Billings Bridge Plaza at Bank & Riverside
  • Bayshore Shopping Centre on Richmond Road at the 417
  • St. Laurent Centre on St. Laurent Blvd.
  • Place d'Orleans on Place d'Orleans Drive
All of the new locations will replace the existing Zellers stores, but Zellers won't disappear from Ottawa, at least for the time being.  They're staying at these locations (no word on whether lowest price will still be the law):
  • Hull, Aylmer and Gatineau
  • Bell's Corners (Moodie Drive @ Robertson Road, or whatever it's called now)
  • Gloucester (Ogilvie Road near Blair)
  • ...and Sparks Street at 156 Sparks.  (Did you know: the building that Zellers occupies was originally built in 1871 for the Poulin Dry Goods Store. More info here.)

  1. I always find the Bells Corners Zellers to be understocked for certain items... okay, just Hot Wheels cars. I suspect it might be on the chopping block under new management, especially since it's not that far from both the Hazeldean and Bayshore Zellers soon-to-be Target stores.

  2. Steve - isn't Bells Corners now a 'discount' version of the chain now -- ie, where all the other Zellers send their old stock in a last ditch effort to sell it?

I actually bought a tambourine there earlier this year, $2.99 discounted from the original $17.99. What a bargain!

  3. Yeah, the Bells Corners Zellers does have some clearance centre signs, though there's also some new items in the toy department pertaining to THOR and CARS 2, so it's not just unsold items.

  4. Thank you for posting this article. So question, are they still gonna have a Bell store in St. Laurent Shopping Centre 2? Because I was searching for one, I need to make some upgrades to my devices. I saw signs for clearance deals and was just making sure the Bell was still on the corner.

according to the target facebook page they are putting targets into hazeldean mall but not bayshore or moodie/robertson.
