Giveaway: Win a pair of tickets to this week's Ottawa Twestival

UPDATE: Congrats to Rock Norris who won the draw for tickets and will be attending Thursday's Ottawa Twestival.  Thanks to everybody who entered - really enjoyed your comments.

--

I have a pair of tickets to the Ottawa Twestival happening this Thursday night, March 24, at the Westin Hotel.

If you haven't heard about this event, it's part-fundraiser, part-party, part-networking event, in support of the Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health.  It takes place from 7pm-10pm at Daly's in the Westin, with snacks & cupcakes, a silent auction (hosted by my good pal @stuntmanstu), and tons of great Ottawa people, all dressed to impress.  Over 200 cities around the world are organizing similar events at the same time.

I was hoping to go, but due to some family health issues I won't be able to attend. So, I'm giving away my two tickets to the big event.

How to enter the contest:

  • Add a comment below, and include your Twitter name and tell us one thing you love about using Twitter.  (If you don't have a twitter account, you can play too, just include your name & tell us why you're not on Twitter yet.)
  • We'll accept entries up until 5:00pm on Wednesday, March 23.  We'll do a random draw from all comments received.  (One entry per person please.)
  • We'll announce the winner on Wednesday night, and make arrangements to send the tickets via email.
  • If you have any questions about the draw please send me an email at feedback@ottawastart.com

The Ottawa organizers are hoping to raise $10,000 through ticket sales and fundraising at the event.  For tickets or more info, visit the Ottawa Twestival page.

@OttawaArne I use Twitter to help others promote their events. I like taking photos of local events and tweeting live from them as well. Tweeting with Canadian celebs days before #TheGenieAwards helped build a relationship with them so when I did meet them we had something to chat about. I just got back from #OFW Ottawa Fashion Week and was tweeting from the #NGC

  3. I am LittleBitOBling and I'm amazed at how twitter connects me with professionals and potential customers I would never have met any other way. And it's also fun to comment on the tweets of people I am a fan of. (Hi Ash koley!!) LOL Have only been on a couple of weeks, and already booked my daughter a modelling gig, and have connected with new clients for my business! WIN WIN and FUN!

  4. Good morning, my name in the Twitterverse is @lor_24.

Its hard to nail down the one thing about Twitter that I love... I think the best part is that it proves that a lot of people truly just want to help others; be it by sharing information, raising money or even just helping another create their online brand.

I see people everyday offering to help in one way or another (think of Japan's recent disaster) with no expectation of anything in return.

That is one of the main reasons...but I could go on for days :)

    Cheers,

    @lor_24

  6. I have a couple of twitter identities, CPCChamplain and CFarlcliffe. One is my work account through which I connect with stakeholders and health professionals potentially interested in relocating to Eastern Ontario. The other is my personal account where I connect with people on issues of interest to me.
Twitter is a tool that allows me to expand my networks, learn new information I might not have otherwise had and it is now my primary source for breaking news and first person accounts.

I love Twitter for the many, many friends I have made and the professional connections. As a young person, it has made a very easy foray from student-life to career.

  10. My twitters are @patdrummond (personal), @boatingincanada (news for boaters), and @ManotickDir (for people from the 'tick). Twitter allows me to provide up-to-the-minute news, links, and comments to anyone who wants it either by following or using many of the twitter-based services that search for hashtags or words - in real time! And more to come.

  16. I'm @kmedow and what I love about twitter is making connections with people from all around the world - it seems like it's 10x easier (and more fun) to do it through Twitter than any other medium. It's awesome that everyone else is also so open to making those connections because, let's face it, that's what it's all about!

  19. @bnjmnwood - I love how I can communicate with a community, a city, a friend, a group of friends, celebrities, or complete strangers in the exact same medium... And get replies! Plus I've learned a lot more about Ottawa and how it's citizens feel over the last year when I've really used Twitter, which makes me think about what I think.

Besides the connections I've made - I love the speed with which information/ opinions travel around twitter. I don't need to log onto my favourite news sites anymore, I just check what people are tweeting about!

  25. @JATetro is my Twitter name although I'm better known as the "Germ Guy"

Twitter has given me the ability to share my scientific knowledge not only to the great people of Ottawa but to the world. It's also allowed me to share media that would normally sit on my computer unseen. Finally, I've been encouraged to experiment with new ideas, new directions and new initiatives.

It's the perfect model of democratization

  27. watawalife. I don't really like twitter that much. I think it's better than a news reader for keeping up with blog posts, but other than that it strikes me as a lot of inane jabber. I like facebook better.

    Do I win?? ;)

Hey there I'm @taylorlachance, tweeps. One thing I adore about Twitter is its ability to bring all sorts of people together. Movies junkies, sports nuts and music lovers can get together, and dicuss. Also, it keeps you informed on up to date news, and lets you connect with celebs and other important people :)

  33. I am @wpiggiesottawae and I am only 3 weeks new to Twitter. I've already made some contacts and a lot of them will be there at the Twestival. I joined because @Littlebitobling told me to (Hi Heather!) and I haven't regretted it. I still want to learn more and figure out how to use it to my advantage. I like that I've connected with so many other moms like me and I only have 34 followers! Imagine the places I can go when I start getting more and more followers!
