It's not quite on the same level of hockey trade rumours, but I've seen a few rumours recently about possible performers as Bluesfest (July 5-17, 2011 in Ottawa). Most of the rumours are just speculation based on touring schedules, but still it's fun to start putting together a "fantasy Bluesfest line-up":
- The Sun's Denis Armstrong kicked off this season of Bluesfest rumours with speculation that the Eagles will play Bluesfest. "Also look for Peter Frampton, Yes and Pearl Jam to visit Bluesfest," he writes.
- Denis Armstrong also thinks Elvis Costello may play, and maybe even a re-united Buffalo Springfield. Perhaps Stone Temple Pilots and Blue Oyster Cult. Perhaps.
- Commenters on Festival Outlook, a web site that tracks festival line-ups for shows across North America, have mentioned Hey Rosetta, Cheap Trick, Rihanna, A Perfect Circle, Mumford and Sons, Lady Antebellum, Toby Keith, Taylor Swift, The Strokes.
- And U2, because they're playing in Montreal on July 8-9 and Toronto on July 11. (Is there enough room for a U2 show at the Lebreton Flats site?)
- From the forum at JamBands.ca, name-dropping includes Wilco, Colin James, Buddy Guy, George Thorogood, Michael Buble (!) and Kings of Leon.
- How about Cage the Elephant and the Black Keys?
- Here's a Facebook campaign to get Cheap Trick to play Bluesfest this year
- And Stuntman Stu wants your help to bring Huey Lewis and the News to Bluesfest
So who do you think is going to play at Bluesfest this year? Who do you want to see?
No Ottawa Locale Artists???
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna guess Black Keys during the 1st week of Bluesfest. Canadian tour just announced and Ottawa mysteriously left off. They will be in the area with stops in Toronto, Montreal, and Quebec City...
ReplyDeletePeople don't care about rumours of local artists. However, bet money that bands like Hollerado and LoudLove will be there.
ReplyDeleteSam Roberts.
ReplyDeleteHe's performed at a few Bluesfests before and has a new album coming out soon.
Denis Armstrong reports: "Vancouver’s Mother Mother will play Bluesfest on July 12, according to a reader." http://blogs.canoe.ca/nowopen/general/another-fearless-bluesfest-prediction/
ReplyDelete...and Peter Simpson makes the case for The Black Keys: http://communities.canada.com/ottawacitizen/blogs/bigbeat/archive/2011/02/22/will-the-black-keys-play-bluesfest.aspx
ReplyDeleteHERE COME THE MUMMIES!!!!!!!!!! They would be a fabulous addition to the lineup.

ReplyDeleteHopefully JW Jones & John Allaire as local talent will perform.
ReplyDeleteWould love to see Cheap Trick!
Pollstar had Black Keys listed for July 8th until it was taken down...
ReplyDeleteI would love to see the John Butler Trio again this year...as a headliner on one of the side stages this time. Peter Frampton would be great too. I would also love to see Social Distortion - they jsut released a new kick-butt album.
ReplyDeleteAnother great idea would be to have a classic albums live night on one of the side stages (perhaps Back in Black, Led Zep II, Who's Next, and Dark Side of the Moon).
Wishful thinking I'm sure, but it would be great.
This is a Stretch... The Monkees on Sunday July 17th for closing....They are playing in June in Niagara Falls and their Tour dates end on the 16th of July??? Would love to see them.... watched them on the TV when just a kid.....
ReplyDeleteCornpone
How about some Jazz Festival rumours & speculation? From the Ottawa Citizen:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.ottawacitizen.com/entertainment/Jazzfest+revelations+speculations/4427792/story.html
Brad Mehldau, Joshua Redman, Bela Fleck, Kurt Elling, Youssou N'Dour, Pink Martini, Robert Plan, Peter Frampton, k.d. lang, Natalie Cole, Elvis Costello... lots more in the article too.
Please, not Sam Roberts again - unless you want to call it Cisco Systems Ottawa Snooze-fest...
ReplyDeleteI'd guess DeVotchKa might come back as they are playing Montreal during the festival and have yet to announce any other dates nearby yet.
ReplyDeleteThey played two years ago and were fantastic, so I'm hoping this turns out to be true!
Tom Waits and if Peter Frampton does come here, maybe a Humble Pie flashback !!! That would be cool !!!!
ReplyDeletePeter Gabriel would be cool..
ReplyDeleteBig Audio Dynamite's original lineup, including Mick Jones of the Clash, is reunited and are booking summer festival dates!!!!!
ReplyDeleteTwo names I'd love to see at Bluesfest- Grand Funk Railroad and Eric Burden.
ReplyDeleteAnyone know if Monkeyjunk is playing at all??
ReplyDeleteComming from the same guy who said that Pearl Jam and Neil Young were coming in 2010, I would disregard 90% of his rumours. Crop of BS
ReplyDeleteIggy and the Stooges.
ReplyDeleteCamera Obscura would be nice
ReplyDeleteSome blues artists would be nice - so far the only name I've seen is Buddy Guy (rumour only)
ReplyDeleteVan Halen (with David Lee Roth), Black Sabbath (with Ozzy), Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush and Nevermore (who should make up for their just-cancelled North American tour for April and May) would be my favorites to see at Bluesfest.
ReplyDeleteBen Harper! He's playing Toronto right before...
ReplyDeleteSAB
ReplyDeleteWhat about Enemin? or the great jam band O.A.R.
ReplyDeleteOr more realistcally, how about BareNaked Ladies.
JUST SAYIN!
Mr.P
Robin Trower is on tour in the US up until end of June. He starts a Euro tour in August.
ReplyDeleterobin trower ends his US tour in the north east at end of June. Starts his Euro tour in August.
ReplyDeleteCHEAP TRICK!
ReplyDeleteThere's a hole in the Foo Fighters touring schedule that could be filled :)
ReplyDeleteMetallica is playing Quebec's Festival d'Ete on July 16th - not unreasonable to assume they might swing by Bluesfest too!
ReplyDeleteThey have the wrong date for the line-up announcement...it will be announced April 26th.
ReplyDeletecome on come on bring on Cheap Trick!!!!!!!!Please
ReplyDeleteHow about the Heartless Bastards, can't they try real hard to get a good quality band like that here vs U2...Heartless Bastards keep to blues more that any big band name...ohhh how I wish for the ole days of bluesfest originally at Tunney's back in the day!!!
ReplyDeleteMetallica???
ReplyDeleteGet Cashtro Crosby!
ReplyDeleteCROSSING MY FINGERS FOR PEARL JAM
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to see Metallica come to 2011's Ottawa bluesfest. I have never seen them and I am a huge fan. I think they would attract a lot of attention for this years lineup. Im 22 and I like the newer rock bands (Billy Tallent, Rise Against, Theory of a Deadman...etc) But I think getting bands that are older and wont be performing for the next 10-15 years should be priority. ROCK ON!! :)
ReplyDeleteMETALLICA!!! they are open between the 9th and the 16th. I like the new rock bands but I wanna see bands who wont be around for the next 10-15 years. Never thought I would see Skynyrd, KISS and Rush. Pretty excited for Peter Frampton tho!
ReplyDeleteWould love to see Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers come to Bluesfest!!!
ReplyDeleteYes. Peter Gabriel would be a delight.
ReplyDeleteHow about some blues like The Neville Brothers.
Sandy
I wish Joss Stone would come!!!!!!!! make them !!
ReplyDeleteHeard that Laurynn Hill was a possibility for the line up too!!! How AWESOME would THAT be!!!! She ROCKS!!!
ReplyDeletetwo words: Steely Dan. hey, I can dream. hah.
ReplyDeleteHow about Steve Perry/Journey. And last year I LOVED Maria Hawkins and Rocket Rached and the Fat City Blues! Four Way Street would be an amazing addition! How about some local bands?!
ReplyDeleteElton John, Lady Gaga. Celo Green. Is that too rich for Ottawa's Blood?? This IS an international event. Making a name for itself all over the world. Sir Elton John ... PLEASE?!
ReplyDeleteI notice Iron Maiden has a Fri/Sat gap in their touring schedule during Bluesfest .. while travelling from Chicago (Thu) to Quebec City (Sun).
ReplyDeleteIron Maidene & Alice Cooper on July 10th. It was listed on a site and was removed. To big a gap in their touring schedule the 1st week of July.
ReplyDeletei hope they bring system of a down!
