What's the deal with these transit fines?

A while back, Ottawa Sun reporter Jon Willing blogged about Ottawa's Public Transit Bylaw, and the list of infractions and fines that can be levied for a variety of bad behaviour. Check out the list here.

The list of infractions reads like a bus ride from hell. But some of the fines associated with the infractions seem a little out of whack. Like, the fine for "Placing feet on seat cushion" is the same as "Urinating in a bus, transit station".

And I love that there's a fine for "Boarding a bus while wearing ice skates". That's so Ottawa.

What's the worst thing you've done on the bus? When I was in junior high, the big thing to do was to take down the interior cardboard ads. I ended up with a Energy 1200 bus ad. But I was never fined.

OC Transpo Guide

  1. I really wanted one of those trident ads with the lips coming out! But I was like 8 at the time...

It's obvious that OC Transpo is run by a consortium of car rental agencies and used car dealers. Check out the ads on your bus as it pulls up late, splashes mud on your coat and invites you to stand, crushed amongst back packs, bad cologne and cell phone conversations. It certainly isn't 'client oriented', but I expect the monkey who sets up the schedule has free parking and needn't take the bus.
