The Place Next Door, sign no more

A reader sent us this pic of the old awning from The Place Next Door, left rather unceremoniously in a dumpster on Rideau Street. (Photo by Jack O'Sullivan.)

(The restaurant was torn down, and will be replaced soon by condos.) We've had a few conflicting emails from our readers about whether or not the restaurant building is being torn down, or replaced with another restaurant, or condos, or an empty lot, or if it was just the sign coming down. Can anyone tell us the correct answer?

  1. Didn't the Place Next Door become a new restaurant?

  2. I walked past not an hour ago. The place is a new banquet hall called The Brickstone, with a banner hanging outside and everything.

Dave Smith sold the property but is keeping Nate's going for three years. Whether the whole building, which includes the space that's now The Brickstone, comes down then, I don't know.
