The Ottawa Senators are headed to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in modern franchise history.
It could be a homecoming of sorts for the Stanley Cup. The original Ottawa Senators (and Silver Seven before that) won the championship 11 times, the last one in 1927. And the Stanley Cup was "born" in Ottawa in 1892, when Lord Stanley, Governor General of Canada, decided to award a cup to the champion hockey team in the Dominion of Canada.
NHL.com has a great page on the early history of the Stanley Cup. And Wikipedia has a good section on Ottawa's great teams of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
